Have not bothered updating our fishing report for a while as the Tongariro has been a little slow.
However I am pleased to say “things” are happening, it seems there are Rainbows out there, over the past couple of days.
There is a cold front approaching this should also hasten a few more up stream, plenty of good browns throughout the river, look at the shallows and pockets.
The TT has had a run of 2 – 3lb bullets, I fished below the main road bridge there two days ago and landed five feisty rainbows, losing several others a couple grabbed the fly
as it rose off the bottom, not to much weight with a longish leader Nymphing worked for me.
Try not to over over weight your nymphs they won’t drift correctly.
The Hinemaia has been on and off by all accounts.
Is reported all stream mouths have plenty of fish around those, one would assume waiting to venture up river.
